Yin Yang Guitar
The design for this guitar came to me in a flash as I sketched candidate detail shapes on a full size scale plan. The Taoist symbol of Yin and Yang symbolizes the paradoxical dual yet non-dual nature of the world. The shape lends itself beautifully to the characteristic guitar shape. I used abalone purfling in a tricky-to-do-for-me channel that turned out well. The two-color top was achieved with seal coats of no-wax clear shellac and a one-pound cut of amber shellac under the poly clear coat. This guitar features Gretsch pickups, a Hi-Lo Tron single coil in the neck and a Blacktop FilterTron humbucker in the bridge position. The overall scale of the guitar is midway between Tele/Les Paul and ES-335--something like ES 339 size. For this reason and the usual ergonomic through neck construction, it's a very comfortable guitar to play. ​All guitars I make come with lifetime maintenance and adjustment to your specification.
