Occasional Table
This table is purpose built for my living room. Honestly I needed a place to put the TV remote, my glasses, and the occasional beer! The design process was as simple as sitting in the easy chair and placing the remote on an imaginary table to find the perfect height-width-length dimensions. I also wanted a small drawer to store stuff. The drawer slides both ways for access from each side of the table. The shelf design--as narrow rails--came to me during the building process. I wanted a shelf to hold magazines but I didn't want to lose site-lines to the tapered legs. I like to add a few curved elements to soften the piece and encourage curiosity (how'd he do that?). Pushing the curve of the rails through the apron gives this piece some whimsical flair. This piece is build in my favorite wood combination--walnut and cherry. The finish is polyurethane on the top, and Tried-and-True varnish oil everywhere else. It measures 19"L, 12"W, 13"H. |
