CRick
I saw a picture of the Beatles where John was playing a Rickenbacker 325 and George was playing the 330. The idea for a Rickenbacker homage guitar that suggested aspects of both Beatles guitars came. This guitar is about midway in size between the 325 and the 330. I had fun tweaking the design elements to make it recognizable as a Rick-style guitar, but unlike anything else. The key thing about these guitars is that the single-coil "toaster" pickups (Creamery, Manchester England) don't sit in a pickup rout in the body. They sit on top. This changes the usual geometry of the guitar, especially the relationship between the fretboard and body heights. Consequently, the pickups have very little height adjustment so the geometry must be right from the start. Rickenbacker uses a compensating double deck pick guard, which I resolved with acrylic so the figured walnut guard would show. The headstock, fretboard, and pick guard are from a wind row California black walnut along the Sacramento River. It was old and beetle infested so a local mill (Hunski Hardwoods) felled it and revealed stunning figure. It pairs very well with the main black cherry top. A Bigsby B5 rounds out the Beatles vibe. All guitars I make come with lifetime maintenance and adjustment to your specification. |
