Jewelry-Keepsake Box
I made this box for Jennifer. She chose the wood combination--a beautiful piece of red birch with a figured maple panel. The inside walnut box slides freely. I used Brusso box hinges which were challenging to install but worth the result. The hummingbird inlay is poplar for the greenish parts, camphor from a neighborhood tree for the yellow parts, walnut for the tail, and padouk for the nape. The finish is Tried-and-True varnish oil and beeswax. This one measures, 13"L, 10"W, 4"H.
