Fair Oaks Olive
This is a spec guitar inspired by an olive branch trimmed by my friend Jeff from a legacy olive orchard in Fair Oaks California. I milled the branch into strips that maintain the curve of the branch and glued them all into a panel suitable for a guitar top. Some fit of madness led to boldly cutting the panel along sweeping curves, inserting blue-dyed poplar veneer, and gluing the panel back together. I also maintained the blue-streak flow by fitting thin veneers from the pickup cutouts to the tops of Gretsch Hi-Lo and Black Top Filtertron pickups. This is the most "semi-hollow" constructed guitar I've made. It consequently has rather loud and sustaining acoustic tone. I incorporated a yin-yang motif into the space. This is a well-balanced and comfortable guitar both standing and sitting. And it was an especially fun guitar to make! All guitars I make come with lifetime maintenance and adjustment to your specification.
